Jane Faires

I am a professional contemporary artist living and working in Devon.  After studying painting at Exeter Art College, gaining a BA (Hons) in Fine Art, I have exhibited locally, and in London and Kolkata in India.

 

For as long as I can remember I have been fascinated by painting and the history of painting. The most exciting period for me is early 20^th century Modernism, especially Post Impressionism, Surrealism and Abstract Expressionism.

 

For many years I concentrated on pure abstraction, using bright colour and lively compositions but more recently have begun to explore figurative painting either from observation or photographs. I have also always been very interested in imaginative images using my own personal symbolism.

 

I see my work as a fascinating journey of experimentation and constant evolution, exploring the different techniques of painting using oils and acrylics, and merging the eclectic influences and varied subject matter to develop my own style.

 

I am inspired by nature and animals, mythical creatures and my own experiences which form dream like visions in my imagination.
