John Roberts

John is self taught bird carver/sculptor who works in a variety of woods. Whilst living in the USA for four years he encountered the art of Decoy Carving whose origins lie in wildfowling. From this art form he has developed his style to embrace a wide spectrum of bird life. He has successfully competed in National Competitions, being awarded Gold, Silver, and Bronze by the British Decoy Wildfowl Carvers Association and has been featured in The Guild of Master Carvers publication “Woodcarving” having been selected for a special award in their annual competition. He has competed in the Ward World Carving Championships in Maryland USA. His birds are carved from a variety of woods, primarily tupola, and jeuletong, but lime, ash, pine etc are also utilised. Painting of the birds is carried out using Acrylics which show the vivid and subtle colours of our wild birds.
